AHRQ Quality Indicators (QI) Implementation

Your hospital, like so many others, is no doubt committed to quality improvement to remain modern and competitive. Hospitals today are actively involved in quality improvement initiatives focused on measuring and improving patient outcomes. There are many quality measurement indicators available in the public domain that can be used for hospitals’ quality measurement. In addition, there are federal government’s value-based purchasing programs that mandate hospitals to report on selected measures annually, such as HVBP and HAC.

One of the quality measure sets supported by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) is called AHRQ Quality Indicators (QI) and is used in these federal government programs for quality improvements. iShare has expertise in implementing AHRQ QI software tool which helps hospitals group their Inpatient Discharge data to produce quality measures rates.

Quality Indicators (QIs) – as defined by the official AHRQ website – are “standardized, evidence-based measures of health care quality that can be used with readily available hospital inpatient administrative data to measure and track clinical performance and outcomes”. These QI’s include Prevention Quality Indicators (PQI), Inpatient Quality Indicators (IQI), Patient Safety Indicators (PSI), and Pediatric Quality Indicators (PDI).

iShare’s AHRQ-related services include:

  • Transforming data to convert your raw Inpatient Discharge data to a structure that is supported in AHRQ QI tools
  • Inputting your data in AHRQ QI tools to compute indicator rates in monthly, quarterly, annually or a frequency of your choice in a secured environment, including in-premise implementations
  • Producing reports within the AHRQ QI tools and organizing your QI rates by stratifiers such as, age, sex, comorbidities, etc.
  • Automating the indicator generation process for a scheduled run of the tools to make that process efficient
  • Customizing AHRQ QI tools to integrate with your EMR (Electronic Medical Records) tools

iShare is keenly aware of the pressure healthcare organizations face to strike a balance between quality improvement and cost-efficiency. You can lean on our team’s proven experience in understanding and meeting your quality improvement IT needs.
